Wireless Communications Networking: and An Overview
This paper presents an overview of wireless local-area networks (LANs) and wireless personal area networks (PANs), with emphasis on the two most popular standards: IEEE 802.1 1, and Bluetooth. While there are many such surveys in the current literature and online, we attempt here to present wireless LANs and PANS in a unified fashion as a viable alternative to wired LANs, while stressing the remaining challenges and limitations
Archiving the Relaxed Consistency Web
The historical, cultural, and intellectual importance of archiving the web
has been widely recognized. Today, all countries with high Internet penetration
rate have established high-profile archiving initiatives to crawl and archive
the fast-disappearing web content for long-term use. As web technologies
evolve, established web archiving techniques face challenges. This paper
focuses on the potential impact of the relaxed consistency web design on
crawler driven web archiving. Relaxed consistent websites may disseminate,
albeit ephemerally, inaccurate and even contradictory information. If captured
and preserved in the web archives as historical records, such information will
degrade the overall archival quality. To assess the extent of such quality
degradation, we build a simplified feed-following application and simulate its
operation with synthetic workloads. The results indicate that a non-trivial
portion of a relaxed consistency web archive may contain observable
inconsistency, and the inconsistency window may extend significantly longer
than that observed at the data store. We discuss the nature of such quality
degradation and propose a few possible remedies.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, CIKM 201
Wireless Camera and Site Survey Issues over an IEEE 802.11 b based wireless network test bed
Wireless LAN systems based on IEEE 802.11 have been a proved and sought after technological innovation, over the past few years. In this paper, we discuss some of the technical aspects for testing and deploying a wireless LAN system at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. This shall serve as a model test bed for future research and development, under the aegis of Ibero American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC)

Ibero-American Science and Education Consortium (ISTEC): New challenges in a global collaborative environment
The Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC) is a non-profit organization comprised of educational, research, industrial, and multilateral organizations throughout the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula. The Consortium was established in 1990 to foster scientific, engineering, and technology education, joint international research and development efforts among its members, and to provide a cost-effective vehicle for the application and transfer of technology. After twenty years, ISTEC has established a presence in the region, but it also has experienced problems to interact with different cultures and interests. During 2010 it suffered important changes in its organization and big efforts were realized to accomplish new goals and to share worldwide expertise, to facilitate distributed problem solving, creating the local critical mass needed for the development of regional projects in areas such as: continuing education, libraries and repositories, globalization of the culture of quality and accreditation standards, R&D, intellectual property development, capital acquisition, and social responsibility, among others. ISTEC continues to be dedicated to the improvement of Science, Engineering, Technology, Math education, R&D, and Entrepreneurship. The Consortium will foster technology transfer and the development of social and business entrepreneurs through the implementation of a global network that pretends to reach other countries in the world creating clusters of businesses and institutions that share common interest, assisting in the establishment of strategic alliances/joint ventures, and the promotion of collaborative partnerships in general.Servicio de Difusión de la Creación Intelectual (SeDiCI
Mesh node communication system for fire figthers
This report describes the prototype and demonstration of a reliable local area network (LAN) of devices able to interconnect a crew of fire fighters with a communications node. The data consists of images for thermal cameras at a given rate and other low bandwith data taken from the different sensors of the fire fighter gear, that are connected to the transmitter using a Bluetooth personal area network (PAN). The physical environment is indoors and it is expected that all nodes of the communication networks are distributed in different positions into a building

Influence of the Driving Cycle, Type of Vehicle and Travel Conditions in the Cinematic Variables of the Routes in Urban Buses. Case Study Ibarra-Ecuador
Latin American cities have pollution and traffic problems due to the lack of research and planning in the transport sector. In Ecuador, the characteristics of the transport fleets and their kinematics in the city have not been determined. This study analyzes in detail the kinematic characteristics of each public transport route in the city of Ibarra-Ecuador using GPS georeferencing equipment for each second of travel. 22 urban bus routes were monitored evaluating 186 buses in 832 trips, where it was determined that the average speed, acceleration and deceleration depend mainly on three factors: route, city sector and vehicle model. Other factors such as operator, age of driver, travel times and time slot did not show greater significance in influencing the kinematic variables under study, so it is not considered within the research study
